Description and Local Attractions
This permit will allow you to drive a vehicle to Horseshoe Lake, park overnight, and hike into Hog Island to reach one of the first come, first serve campsites. This property is seasonally flooded, so there are times the road into Hog Island is completely under water. You need to print the parking permit that will be emailed to you about a day prior to the camp date and make sure it is visible in the dash of your vehicle. Cars will be towed that do not have a vehicle permit.
Check in time is 1 PM and check out time is 11 AM.
This property is a Wildlife Management Area & during any Special Opportunity or quota hunt season, camping is reserved for permitted hunters.
Access the property by entering the main entrance located on the south side of State Road 60, 18 miles west of I-95 and 10 miles east of Yeehaw Junction (main entrance lat/long: 80° 45' 59.06"W / 27° 38' 29619" N). This grants vehicular access to drive into the parking area at Horseshoe Lake, park overnight, and walk to the FCFS Hog Island campsite from there. The two primitive sites, White and Yellow, are only accessible by foot. The white campsite is located near the eastern terminus of the boardwalk as a spur off of the white trail less than a mile (.8 mile) from the Horseshoe Lake parking area. The yellow campsite is east of the red trail as a spur off the yellow trail about .8 of a mile from the Horseshoe Lake parking area. Both sites are primitive and provide only a fire ring, bench seating and a single tent platform. You will be given the combination to the lock marked with a C, and must close & lock the gate behind you, and do not lock any lock out of sequence on the chain.
